Name: Cathy Ringer
Years in the Wellness/Beauty Industry:
7 years as an Esthetician
Most Memorable Tip:
I've gotten a few $50 tips. But the most memorable tip was a book I received from a client who wrote it. He autographed it with the personal note calling me his “face gardener.” He's a cat lover and so am I. We bonded over our love of cats. But more importantly, I helped a grumpy old man relax and look better through my skills and passion. He is forever grateful.
How did you choose a career in the Wellness industry?
As a child I had a skin condition, keratosis pilaris, and was often treated by dermatologist. As an adult living in California, I often received skin care services. I was amazed at the results that I could achieve. After seeing what a difference it made in my own skin I realized that I would like to do that for others. This is how my passion for skincare was born.
Greatest reward of doing the work?
The most rewarding experience is helping my guests look better. If they look good, they feel better. I love when I hear them exclaim, "This really works!" As a result, it has created many long-term client relationships that have contributed to the success of my career.
Top two things you wish or would like to change in the industry?
First, I would like for full-time employment to return as an option. Right now in our industry everybody has two jobs, or even more. I understand it's related to healthcare legislation. However, it would be really great to be able to commit to one primary location for the success of the business while receiving benefits and other professional resources. Secondly. I would like to see the industry move to e-forms for consultation rather than paper forms. People hate filling out forms. An app on an iPad with an update option would be really amazing.
Who is your Mentor and why?
My mentor is Tammy Silvas. We went to Esthetics school together. She was always so passionate. Her passion is infectious. To this day we still continue to attend skincare seminars together.
